Spruce Mountain Inn's Director Candace Beardsley, LICSW, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychotherapy from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA and a Master of Science and Social Work Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. While in Madison, Ms. Beardsley also received training at the Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT). Prior to founding Spruce Mountain Inn in 1982, Candace held appointments at three community mental health centers, where she worked in day treatment, crisis intervention, outpatient, and residential programs. In 1990, she won the Vermont State Young Careerist Award given by Business and Professional Women for her accomplishments in her field. More recently, she served on the Mental Health/ Substance Abuse Advisory Panel of the Vermont Health Care Authority and was a longstanding member of the Executive Board of the American Residential Treatment Association (ARTA). A licensed clinical social worker in the State of Vermont, Candace has overall responsibility for clinical and business operations at the Inn.

Spruce Mountain Inn's Assistant Director Grant Leibersberger MBA, MEd has fifteen years of progressive management experience in residential treatment organizations that serve adolescents, young adults and their families. Grant’s experience includes serving as the Director of Blackwater Outdoor Experiences, a wilderness program for young adults and youth in Virginia and as the Field Director at Wilderness Quest in Monticello, Utah. He has additionally worked to help families fund treatment programs through his participation in various charitable organizations and as an advisor at UBS Financial Services. Grant holds an M.Ed in Counseling from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. His experience and education are a wonderful asset to our organization. His unique perspective allows him to work extremely effectively with our staff, program participants, referral sources and parents.

Ed Levin, LICSW earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Temple University in Philadelphia and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the Columbia University School of Social Work in New York City. He is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Vermont. Mr. Levin began his professional career at the National Institute of Mental Health Research Center in Fort Worth, Texas. He has worked for more than 40 years as a clinician and administrator in residential, psychiatric, and educational settings for children and adults with emotional challenges. Ed is currently Chairperson of the Executive Board of the American Residential Treatment Association (ARTA). He joined the staff of the Inn as Assistant Director prior to its opening in 1983. In 2008, after over 25 years in that position, Ed has now “retired” from that full time job and has become our Director of Outreach and Referral Development.
