Since its inception, Spruce Mountain Inn has provided the opportunity for personal growth and increased independence to hundreds of young men and women. The Inn was founded in 1982 by Candace Beardsley, LICSW, in response to a perceived gap in services available to young adults struggling with serious mental health issues. Since its beginning, Spruce Mountain Inn has offered a structured vocational/educational program, individualized treatment plans and case management services. Under the continued direction of Beardsley and Assistant Director Grant Leibersberger. M.Ed., M.B.A, the Inn today boasts a strong and continually innovative program. Here the emphasis is on learning practical skills coupled with ongoing and appropriate on-site therapeutic services in a supportive, nurturing environment.

Located in scenic Plainfield, Vermont, the Inn and its staff take pride in offering the kind of balanced program that takes into account the individual’s need for a supportive community of peers, comprehensive treatment and skill development to achieve a more satisfying and independent lifestyle.

The overall goals of the program are these:

  • personal growth and satisfaction with living
  • developing a healthy lifestyle
  • functioning with increased levels of independence
  • making a greater contribution to society
