GROUPS & DAILY SCHEDULE

Our Life Skills Program is designed to help clients who aspire to more independent
living achieve that goal. This program addresses needs for emotional support.
We offer over forty hours per week of groups, led by fourteen different instructors.

Groups include*:

ANGER: A PATHWAY TO PERSONAL COMMUNITY MEETING POWER AND SELF ESTEEM
The group looks at creative ways to manage and express anger so it becomes an ally on one’s journey to self-change.

COMMUNITY MEETING
At this weekly group meeting, participants are provided with the opportunity to discuss program "business" and to support each other. This group is attended by all Spruce Mountain Inn staff and program participants.

GROUP CHECK IN
This group helps members get together each day to review their day, ask for support, evaluate their use of the program and discuss group concerns.

POSITIVE CHANGES FOR RECOVERY
An opportunity to explore through personal sharing the challenges, choices and process of being in recovery from addictions and compulsive behaviors associated with alcohol, drugs, relationships, exercise, self injury, food, etc.

COOKING
This class brings together the elements of nutrition, working with others, and basic cooking skills to help participants take better care of themselves by developing healthy eating and food preparation habits.

LEISURE GROUP
Participants utilize community resources including a variety of cultural, outdoor, and recreational opportunities every Saturday afternoon.

FIRST IN FITNESS
Participants are introduced to a local fitness center where swimming, racquetball and use of exercise machines are included in an opportunity to develop a personal fitness program.

EATING DISORDERS GROUP
This therapeutic support group offers an arena to address disordered eating patterns. We will explore topics such as basic nutritional education, family and socio-cultural influences, “emotional” eating, body image and self esteem.

MEN’S GROUP
This weekly group focuses specifically on the member’s experiences as men. Meetings serve as a place to celebrate being male and feeling good about oneself as a man.

MOVEMENT AND JOURNALING
Participants begin most days with this class, which helps them become more in tune and more comfortable with their bodies, minds and feelings.

CONSCIOUS THINKING
This group is to increase our self awareness and examine how our thinking processes effect our moods and behaviors. We will learn DBT skills such as distress tolerance, mood regulation and core mindfullness.

RELAPSE PREVENTION GROUP
This group meets daily to help those struggling with addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors to give and receive support for abstinence that day.

EMOTION MANAGEMENT GROUP
This is a skills based group that utilizes information from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and other treatment models that address cognitive distortions, communication and self esteem.
Residents who come to this group with knowledge of DBT or CBT are encouraged to take leadership with some of the didactic material as a way to further integrate the information. Peers are encouraged to role play a variety of situations that will help to integrate emotion management skills into their lives. Peers observe peers practice emotion management skills and give support and encouragement.

RELATIONSHIP GROUP
This group assists in identifying relationship qualities, such as trust, honesty and connection. Explore the variety of your present relationships and learn how to improve them (including your relationship with yourself).

EXPRESSIVE ARTS
Using discussion and the expressive arts (visual art, poetry, drama, writing and music) this group will explore a variety of topics such as preferences, motivations, emotions, strengths, conflicts, values and relationships. Willingness to try something new is a requirement but “talent” is not necessary.

SPIRITUALITY GROUP
This group provides the opportunity to discuss and explore the concepts of faith, belief systems and “higher power” as tools to increase mental health and serenity. This group does not promote religion, but rather the exploration of spirituality.

SURVIVAL AND BEYOND
Participants work on developing effective interpersonal communication skills needed for survival in today’s complex world as well as self-discovery exercises geared to living a more meaningful and enriching life.

OPEN STUDIO
Various crafting options are offered to encourage participants to pick up old hobbies or develop new ones. Projects may include paper and journal making, pottery, beadwork, gardening.

THERAPY GROUP
This psychotherapy group is intended to help members understand themselves better via examining their relationships with others.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL GROUP
Designed to gather employment and educational history, this group looks at vocational dreams, career interests, identifies vocational/educational strengths and challenges. Participants develop short and long term goals.

WOMEN’S GROUP
This is an opportunity for our female residents to strengthen their relationship with one another while exploring issues unique to women.

WRAP GROUP/RECOVERY TECHNIQUES
This group focuses on elements of the Wellness Recovery Action Plan, a concept developed by Mary Ellen Copeland. We will explore triggers and early warning signs, and a variety of approaches to deal with daily stress and crisis. The wellness toolbox includes: meditation techniques, music, visualization, breathing, nutrition and exercise, i.e. “holisitic” approaches to health.

Substance Abuse & Addictions Group

SUBSTANCE ABUSE & ADDICTIONS GROUP
This is an ongoing group to help individuals examine the consequences of addictive behaviors and explore alternative behaviors and develop their abilities to maintain motivation, cope with cravings, process slips, think rationally and lead a balanced lifestyle. A number of approaches will be used including alternatives or supplements to 12 Step NA and AA meetings including the S.M.A.R.T.(Self Management And Recovery Training) and EA (Emotions Anonymous).

MONDAY SERIES
A rotating cycle of groups including sexuality discussion, nutrition, budget and money management, car maintenance, and winter driving.
